All-Star and Iowa Weekend

Hey folks! Here's my take on the All-Star and Iowa weekend. The Trucks and Cup raced at Charlotte, but the Xfinity series raced at Iowa. The All-Star race was on Saturday and the Xfinity on Sunday, which is an unusual schedule

Friday night was the Truck race. Rolesitter Kasey Kahne won with 21 laps led., followed by rookie Erik Jones with 88 laps led, Matt Crafton with 24 laps led, Tyler Reddick with 1 lap led and Brad Keselowski with 4 laps led. Rounding out the top-10 were John Wes Townley,  Timothy Peters, Matt Tift, rookie Justin Boston and rookie Spencer Gallagher. Mason Mingus wrecked out on lap 114. Travis Kvapil crashed after 62 laps.

Saturday night was the Cup race. The All-Star Race is a non-points race, but they can win 1 million dollars. Friday night, there was a race called the Showdown for drivers not already qualified for the
All-Star Race and the top two in that race made it into the All-Star race, along with race winners since last year's All-Star race and the fan vote winner. Clint Bowyer and Greg Biffle were the Showdown segment winners and raced in and Danica Patrick was the fan vote. Denny Hamlin, the polesitter won the race with 26 laps led, followed by Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch with 24 laps led, Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth. Rounding out the top-10 were Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne with 11 laps led, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski with 49 laps led and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. No one had a DNF, which is when they don't finish, but Danica Patrick completed only 78 laps due to being  temporarily off track.

Sunday was the Xfinity race. Chris Buescher won with 94 laps led, followed by Chase Elliott with 114 laps led, polesitter Erik Jones, Brian Scott and Ryan Blaney with 1 lap led. Rounding out the top-10 were Darrell Wallace, Jr., Ben Rhodes, Brandon Jones, Elliott Sadler and Brendan Gaughan. Ryan Reed led 2 laps and finished 12th. Rookie Daniel Suarez led 48 laps and finished 18th. Rookie Ross Chastain wrecked out on lap 215. Eric McClure crashed on lap 160. JJ Yeley had an accident on lap 151.

Come back next time for my Charlotte and Indy 500 weekend recap.

  1. How different are truck races from car races? I would think that cars would go faster.

    1. The truck races are like the shorter car races in distance and the Cup cars, anyway are faster than the trucks.
