Sonoma Weekend

Hey folks! Here's my take on the Sonoma race weekend. The Trucks and Xfinity were off this time. I don't typically cover K&N Pro, but that race had Cup driver presence.

Saturday was the K&N Pro West race. Pole sitter David Mayhew won with 4 laps led, followed by Dalton Sargeant with 64 laps led, J. J. Haley, Ryan Partridge and William Byron. Rounding out the top-10 were Austin Dillon, Noah Gragson, Alex Schutte, Cole Custer and Trevor Bayne. Brandon McReynolds was 19th after a crash on lap 67. No one else wrecked out.

Sunday was the Cup race. Kyle Busch won with 17 laps led, followed by Kurt Busch with 43 laps led, Clint Bowyer with 4 laps led, Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano. Rounding out the top-10 were Jimmie Johnson with 45 laps led, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman and Sam Hornish, Jr. Pole sitter AJ Allmendinger finished 37th after leading 1 lap. David Ragan and Carl Edwards were 39th and 40th respectively after crashing on lap 78, respectively. JJ Yeley was 41st after a wreck on lap 71. Martin Truex, Jr. was 42nd, due to an accident on lap 31. David Gilliland crashed on lap 20 and was 43rd.

  1. Cool. Does car racing have a season like other sports or is it year-round?

    1. Three months off for NASCAR (November-February), but there's some forms of car racing in winter. The Chili Bowl (indoor midgets race) and Snowball Derby (late model race) are winter car races. IndyCar has just finished their season and F1 ends in November, just after NASCAR. IndyCar and F1 start their seasons in March.
