Gateway and Michigan Weekend + a bit of my life these last few days

Hey folks! Here's my take on the Gateway and Michigan weekend. I had access to ESPN and TNT as we had to travel over the weekend, more on this at the end.  Still reliant on the Internet for Gateway as the race was on FoxSports1, which seems to not be included in the cable package they have where we were.

Saturday afternoon was the Nationwide race at Michigan. Paul Menard won with 18 laps led, followed by Sam Hornish, Jr. with 3 laps led, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kyle Busch and Brian Scott.  Rounding out the top-10 were  rookie Chase Elliot with 6 laps led, Regan Smith, Kyle Larson with 46 laps led, Ty Dillon with 9 laps led and  rookie Chris Buescher. Joey Logano led 43 laps before tire trouble relegated him to 16th place.  Dylan Kwsaniewski made a rookie mistake and wrecked Trevor Bayne, which led to his 3rd finish outside the top-10 this year.

Saturday night was the Truck race at Gateway. The Nationwide raced there at one time, but never Trucks before. Darrell Wallace, Jr. won with 85 laps led, followed by German Quiroga with 5 laps led, Timothy Peters, Johnny Sauter and Ron Hornaday, Jr.  Rounding out the top ten were Cole Custer, Ryan Blaney, John Wes Townley, rookie Chase Pistone and Tyler Malsam.  Rookie Tyler Reddick led 2 laps before a 13th place finish.  John Hunter Nemechek led 53 laps before finishing 15th.  Erik Jones led 4 laps before an accident relegated him to 23rd.  Matt Crafton led 11 laps before an accident relegated him to 26th.

Sunday was the Michigan Cup race. Jimmie Johnson won with 39 laps led, followed by Kevin Harvick with 63 laps led, Brad Keselowski with 4 laps led,  Paul Menard and Kasey Kahne with 1 lap led. Rounding out the top-10 were Jeff Gordon with 36 laps led, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. with 1 lap led, rookie Kyle Larson with 2 laps led, Joey Logano with 29 laps led and Clint Bowyer. Tony Stewart led 1 lap before he finished 11th. Jamie McMurray led 4 laps before he finished 12th. Kurt Bush, the 13th place finisher led 16 laps.  Matt Kenseth led 2 laps before finishing 14th.  Rookie Austin Dillon led 2 laps before a 30th place finish.

My mom had her surgery Friday and came home Sunday afternoon.   The hospital's about two hours from where we live. My dad and me visited her in the day and stayed in a boarding house nearby, except we came home Saturday night.  Thursday was our first night at that boarding house as her surgery was early Friday. My parents were at the hospital at six a.m., but I came a little after eight. A shuttle driver took me. My dad found a lounge for people like us. We caught the Nationwide race in the lounge.  We also saw part of the Cup race there.  My mom's surgery went without problems and she's doing good.

  1. I'm so sorry I didn't read this post until now. I'm glad your mom's surgery went well. Were you okay while all of it was happening? It can be hard to have someone you love in the hospital. I hope she continues to feel better.

    1. I was okay on Friday, but Saturday I was tired of that city, so my dad took me home for the night. I took a bath then. I thought Saturday was the day we were going home, as that was the original plan. I take a bath that day and because of the plan, I left my bath stuff at home. On Sunday, after church, we got lunch at KFC and went to my mom.
